Quartz
Quartz is a manufactured material made from natural quartz crystals. Quartz is known for its durability and non-porous structure. The material is hard and resistant to scratches, stains & bacteria. It is not recommended to use quartz outdoors as ultra violet light can fade the colour of this material.

How is Quartz made?
Quartz is comprised of natural quartz crystals, with the remainder of its raw ingredients being a polyester resin, colour agents, and antimicrobial protection amongst other items. The polyester resin is what binds and holds the quartz crystals together, creating the beautiful surface.

Daily/Regular maintenance
Most normal household cleaners can leave a greasy, smeary like layer on the surface of quartz. Sometimes ring marks from glasses can be seen on this greasy, smeary like layer. On every installation, we provide a specialist Miller Brothers daily cleaner spray. This cleaner is an outstanding ready-to-use product for the daily maintenance of quartz work surfaces.

It effortlessly removes light dirt and grease as well as maintaining the natural appearance of the surface. It has a pleasant, fresh fragrance. For best results use a microfiber cloth for cleaning the surface.

Stubborn Marks
If coffee & tea spills are left to sit on the surface of quartz for a period of time, it can cause a stain on the surface. If the daily cleaner does not remove this type of stain please contact our office for advice on how to remove this type of stain. Never scrub aggressively on the surface of quartz as this can permanently damage the surface.

Heat Resistance
Quartz is not heat resistant. It is not advisable to place hot pots and pans from the oven or hob directly onto a quartz countertop. Intense heat may cause a ring to form around the pot and this can permanently change the colour of the quartz countertop. The ring mark is a result of the intense heat scorching the resin contained in quartz. It is always recommended that a pot-holder, or coaster be used in between the hot pots or pans and the surface of the counter.

Chemicals to avoid
Always avoid highly - aggressive cleaning agents like oven or grill cleaners that have a high alkaline/ph level or any strong bleach products. If any of these are spilt on your surface, you should wipe-off immediately with fresh water to neutralize. Keep in mind that if these spillages are left to sit on the surface, it can permanently damage the finish of the surface.

Chipped Edges
Quartz is an extremely resistant surface, however knocks & bangs should be avoided in areas that are more exposed like corners, edges, and bevels. Impact bangs on the edge of quartz counters can cause chips. It is important to know that chips caused by impact knocks on vulnerable areas of a countertop are not as a result of a weakness or flaw in the material. All types of stone will chip if an impact knock or bang occurs on a vulnerable area on the counter.
