Granite
Granite is an igneous rock with grains large enough to be visible with the unaided eye. It forms through the slow crystallisation of magma below the earth’s surface. Granite is composed mainly of quartz and feldspar with minor amounts of mica, amphiboles and other minerals. Granite is ranked between sixth and seventh on the Mohs hardness scale.
Sealing Granite Worktops
Every granite installation from Miller Brother’s is professionally sealed on installation. The sealing process occurs when a solvent liquid sealer is applied to the surface. This liquid enters the pores of the stone and makes the surface water-repellent, oil-repellent & resistant to organic stains (food stains). All of our installers are qualified and trained applicators.
The sealing process protects the surface from water, oil & organic food stains. It also makes cleaning of the counter a much easier task.
Resealing of Granite Counters
We advise having all granite counters professionally sealed every 18 - 24 months. This is a service we provide for our clients. Please contact our office if this is a service you would like to arrange.
Daily maintenance - why you should use our stone cleaner on granite surfaces
Most normal household cleaners can leave a greasy, smeary like layer on the surface. As our daily cleaner is PH-neutral, it does not leave this greasy, smeary like layer. Our daily cleaner also effortlessly removes light dirt and grease and has a very fresh fragrance. For best results apply using a microfiber cloth.
General Tips for Granite care
While the sealer we use is extremely effective, any stone is liable to stain if a substance like oil or wine is left sit on its surface for long periods of time. If this happens, always try and wipe up a spill immediately and never let a spill sit for too long.
You should always take care not to drop any large objects on the edge of stone surfaces as chipping may occur. Keep in mind that stone is more vulnerable to chips on edges and on any bevels or sloping edges.
Always use a specialist cleaner and have the stone periodically sealed.
